This cartoon from an August 26, 2013 issue of the New Yorker really illustrates the problem!
My inspiration for the earbud cord holder is this extension-cord holder.  Since I have no way to fabricate it from plastic, I'll use cardboard.

  1. a bird feeder that actually can keep out squirrels
  2. a way to water my plants when I'm away for a month
  3. a way to organize my closet for easier seasonal transitions
  4. an artifact to make it easier to open jars and/or bottles
  5. a way to store my ear-buds when I'm not using them.  They get tangled and snarled.
  6. a device to help me find my eyeglasses when they are not on my head (and so I can't see very well)
  7. a way to keep the draft from my entryway from coming into my living-room
  8. a stool or kitchen step stool that can be adjusted to my needs
  9. a way to organize my recipes
  10. a device where I could easily adjust the temperature in my house instantaneously

My favorite artifact is:
The Apple (Original) iPad is the artifact I chose because it really evokes my saying, "I LOVE this thing."  It is intuitive and easy to use.  I love the clarity of the retina screen. It is beautifully designed, yet not ostentatiously so. Since it was the first Apple product I ever bought, I wondered if I could use it effectively, but the learning curve was very quick.  It really is intuitive, even if they do run classes to teach you how to use the features.  Also, it serves to replace several other artifacts in my house-- radio, tv, laptop computer, etc.
